Everything You Need to Know – Traveler Safety & Risk Management

Ensuring your travelers’ safety while on the road goes beyond tracking travelers in case of a catastrophic event.  While tracking is a critical component to any Duty of Care program, there are many other important factors to consider.  Education and awareness begin with you!  Join us in Orlando to learn how to take your Duty of Care program to new heights.  Travel managers, travel suppliers, and any road warrior will benefit from this forum.  Topics will include:

Keynote speaker Kevin Coffey, an expert in the field of traveler safety will provide insight on what you and your travelers should know in order to stay safe while traveling internationally and domestically.  

Industry Keynote - Justin Chapman from Visa HQ will provide an overview of the changing landscape of travel documentation and highlight the benefits of a managed travel documentation program.

Detective Kevin Coffey, LA Police Department (Ret.) kevincoffey.com

When it comes educating the business travel community on travel and meeting risk avoidance and response techniques, Kevin Coffey is one of the country’s leading experts in the field.

Kevin Coffey has a unique background in the areas of travel and meeting risk, as he was employed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for 35-years, and recently retired as a Detective Sergeant.

During his career, he became an internationally recognized expert and training consultant in travel crime avoidance tactics and has been conducting thought-provoking crime and risk awareness seminars for organizations and associations, both domestically and internationally.

A pioneer in travel crime investigations, in 1991, he founded the LAPD's Los Angeles International Airport's Crimes Investigations Detail and has been passionate about exposing others in avoiding the pitfalls of travel, including travel and meeting crime, pickpockets, as well as identity theft.  For over two decades, he has been educating GBTA and other travel and meeting association audiences around the globe.

He has been featured on numerous TV appearances, including ABC’s “20/20”, The Travel Channel’s “Travel Scams and Rip-Off’s Revealed, as well as several appearances on Oprah.  He’s also the author of “Travel Beware, an Undercover Cops Guide to Avoiding Travel Crime.”


Justin M. Chapman,  Director of Sales- VisaHQ

Justin M Chapman is the Director of Sales at VisaHQ, a global firm that provides visa and passport services to corporate travel programs and travel management companies around the world. As the Director of Sales, Justin is responsible for all aspects of VisaHQ's global sales and marketing initiatives and has overseen growth into key markets in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. Under his leadership, VisaHQ has experienced record growth and transformational change in becoming a global supplier in a space that had been previously dominated by a single player.

A native of Orlando and a graduate of UCF, Justin grew up in the travel industry and has had a lifelong passion for all things related to travel and aviation. Justin is continuing his education in the travel industry and is obtaining his MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).

Prior to joining the travel industry, Justin worked locally in Orlando at SunTrust in commercial lending where he negotiated high dollar contracts for corporate clients in the oil & gas industry.

Justin understands the nuances of international travel and is an experienced traveler himself, flying over 100,000 miles per year to visit clients and to participate in various travel industry events, where he works tirelessly to promote VisaHQ and to raise awareness of the issues facing global mobility in an uncertain world. Previously featured on NPR, the CBC, and in the Washington Post, Justin is intimately familiar with ever-changing visa and entry requirements and works within the industry to educate travel professionals on the importance of maintaining a managed solution for travel documents.

When he isn't traveling, Justin enjoys plane spotting, golfing, relaxing at the beach, and planning his next international adventure.


Tim Crockett, Vice President - Security, HX Global

Tim has a strong military background that serves him well in designing and providing security and risk management solutions. A native of Hereford, England, he became a member of the Royal Marine Commandos in 1990 and went on to join the Special Boat Service in 1992. In 2001 Tim moved into the private sector and continued to pursue a varied career providing support to a number of private clients in the areas of; threat and vulnerability assessments for projects and personnel often cumulating with the implementation of security and safety system for projects throughout the globe.

Prior to joining HX Global, Tim worked as Senior Director of Global Security Operations for Turner Inc. and prior that that had worked as a consultant to CNN for 12 years. Tim in all of his roles has trained and advised clients, many of which operated predominately in hostile environments, often working alongside many of them in the field, with numerous deployments to Afghanistan, The Middle East, Central & West Africa, Southeast Asia and the Amazon jungles of Brazil.  

For two years beginning in 2002, he worked within CNN, training their personnel to operate in hostile environments and co-coordinating all of their field safety and security requirements before, during and after the last Gulf War. He attended the first U.S. Department of Defence media-training course and made recommendations to the P.A.O (Public Affairs Office/officer) personnel at the Pentagon to better tailor the course to help prepare embedded journalists for the dangers of covering the war. Tim continues to work with many news teams throughout the globe today, providing them with on-going safety and security advice and support in high-risk situations.

Tim remains an avid traveller, and as such has been able to use his skills and experience to plan and help produce several television productions, including reality shows and documentaries.

Tim has given presentations on safety and security training in a number of forums in the media, humanitarian (NGO) and energy sectors, including the Media Leaders meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in 2005. Tim has appeared on a number of major news networks (CNN, CBC, Fox News, Al Jazeera America) and has been quoted in several publications.

Tim is currently the Chairperson for the Media & Entertainment Working Group for OSAC, a department within the US Department of State. While working with the media, he has helped contribute to safer newsgathering. He has been honoured by the Royal Television Society, the Overseas Press Club of America, a Golden Eagle Award and won Peabody Awards his roles in CNN’s ‘Terror on Tape’ series and ’72 Hours Under Fire’ the story of a news team under fire in the besieged city of Homs, Syria. 

 Fred Prassack, CLSD, Director of Security and Safety- Hyatt Regency Orlando

Fred believes that a hotel’s safety and security record is a powerful marketing tool, as in today’s world, it is among the top deciding factors in booking a meeting or a convention. And with over 30 years of experience in the hotel industry, Fred is an expert in hotel risk management and knows what it takes to effectively protect guests and fellow employees. Currently serving as the Director of Security and Safety at the Hyatt Regency Orlando (which formerly was the Peabody Orlando famous for its marching ducks), Fred has been employed at this 1,641-room convention hotel for 22 years. His role is multi-faceted, and includes, but is certainly not limited to, managing a large staff of security officers, training hotel employees in safety and security awareness, administering emergency communication programs, promoting the hotel at various functions and events, and maintaining productive relations with police and fire departments, as well as federal law enforcement agencies. Chairing the hotel’s safety committee and developing viable emergency action plans, with a focus on fire evacuations, hurricane preparedness, and active shooter are just a few examples of Fred’s significant accomplishments.

Prior to joining the Hyatt Regency Orlando, Fred was a District Manager with Pinkerton Security & Investigations, Inc., in Cleveland, OH for three years, where he managed contract security accounts for over 100 clients (including several hotels) ranging in size from 160 to 2,000 guard-hours per week, and annual revenues of over $15 million. His additional functions involved security consulting and assessments.

Before Pinkerton’s, from 1985 to 1992, Fred was employed at the Stouffer Hotel Corporation, in Solon, OH, which started his career in the hotel industry. Fred’s final position there was Corporate Security Director, which put him in charge of 42 hotel security departments nationwide, ranging in size from five to 45 officers.

Fred also has progressive experience in municipal and county law enforcement in the state of Ohio. His assignments included undercover narcotics investigations, detective bureau, uniform patrol, and supervisory and administrative responsibilities.

Fred holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State University, and is a Certified Lodging Security Director (CLSD), as designated by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA). His professional associations include Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (past President and current member), AHLA (past Chairman of the Security Committee and current member) and American Society for Industrial Security (current member).


Lisa Krzywicki, Senior Analyst, Geopolitical Intelligence and Analysis- United

Lisa currently covers the Western Hemisphere and Africa portfolios for the Geopolitical team. Prior to United, Lisa was an East and Southern Africa Analyst for the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) at the U.S. Department of State for over 3 years. In this role, Lisa was responsible for the coordination and exchange of security information between U.S. Embassies and Consulates and the U.S. private sector. Prior to OSAC, Lisa worked as a Corporate Investigator for Target Corporation, conducting regional-level internal and external criminal investigations in the Delaware, New Jersey, and Philadelphia market. She began her career working as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst with the Delaware State Police, transitioning into a role with the Delaware Information and Analysis Center (DIAC), a state-wide fusion center, where she assisted on investigations for all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the state of Delaware. Lisa has her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from King’s College and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Criminal Intelligence Analysis from Saint Joseph’s University.
